I’m Ed Roberts, one of the experts on the review team at GamblingInformation.com. I’m a semi-professional gambler, and I make my money playing online casinos and writing about the best ones I’ve experienced.
This review is going to look at one of the longest established casino brands. Karamba has been in operation since 2005, and over the intervening years it has gained a reputation for trustworthiness and fair dealing. This is backed up by the fact that it hold not one, but two gaming licences – including a prestigious UK Gaming Commission registration.
Karamba has chosen not to go down the route of extensive graphics and additional gimmicks. Instead it concentrates on getting you quick access to the games you want to play, and on providing a great customer experience. This is epitomised by what they call their “CARE” approach – Customers Are Really Everything – and in my opinion this is a far better thing to base your choice of casino on that hot graphics and novelty play gimmicks. That’s not to say that others don’t do this well, but Karamba seems to recognise that its roots are old-school casino gaming and this is what it chooses to do best.
Because of their superb track record, I’m happy to say that I’ve hunted down a great welcome bonus for my readers using our exclusive link. More of that later.
For now, let’s look in more detail at what you can expect to find in terms of games when you play at Karamba.com
Karamba Casino Games & Slot Machines
As you would expect from a casino that’s been on the scene for such a long time, Karamba has built up working partnerships with all the top casino game providers. Rather than running with just one or two on an exclusive/semi-exclusive deal, Karamba has chosen the more expensive, but higher quality, option of choosing the best games from a range of suppliers.
I lost count after 11 software vendors, but you will find top quality games here from NetEnt, Microgaming, NeoGames, NextGen, Yggdrasil and more. There are also several “exclusive” games that are Karamba-branded, but have all the hallmarks of high quality “white label” games from one of these top suppliers. You’ll also find plenty of big licensed games like the Monopoly series, Ted, King Kong, Moby Dick, Game of Thrones, Moby Dick, and more.
In terms of slots, the feeling here is very much “quality not quantity”, and although the number of video slots on offer here (just over 200) is dwarfed by most other casinos out there, the quality of games here is first class. You absolutely get the feeling that Karamba.com has curated these carefully to offer the best customer experience, and not just taken whatever they were offered as part of a package deal.
Because there’s a smaller number, it’s easy to scroll through and find something you want to play. There’s a minimal filtering option available (All games, new games, video slots, classic slots, casino games, and featured games are your categories) as well as a name search. All games are then displayed on the same page, and you can scroll through to find something interesting.
It’s nice to see classic slots getting its own (small) section, but the casino games on offer only number 16 in total, which isn’t going to keep casino table game fans entertained for long. Having said that, once again the quality is very good indeed, with superb versions of roulette, blackjack and baccarat available.
If instant win is your thing, Karamba is one of the few casinos to offer a dedicated section for scratchcards. You’ll find a reasonable selection here, including some exclusive games, and this should be enough to meet the needs of most players who are looking for a quick hit, or maybe something different to play quickly after a session at the slots or at a card table.
My one criticism is that there are no progressive jackpot games here. However, this is more than made up by the fact that every game has its own comprehensive information page with full game stats, odds, play instructions and even a best strategy guide. This really exemplifies the “fair play” ethos of Karamba, and provides a lot more information for gamblers than most casinos out there.
Karamba Live Casino
Karamba’s live casino offering is a very new addition and is growing. Of the 9 live tables currently available, 6 are new at the time of writing. You can play live baccarat, live roulette and live blackjack, each with at least 2 or 3 different variants. Now this isn’t going to keep die-hard live play fans busy for very long, but if you’ve never tried live casino tables before, this makes for a very high-quality and non-threatening environment to try.
Software quality herein the live casino is very good. Again, Karamba have gone with top suppliers and excellent technology to provide a smooth and easy live casino experience that worked well when tested.
Despite its age, Karamba has kept up with the latest technology, and rather than offering a standalone app, they have developed a parallel mobile-optimised version of their website. You can simply enter karamba.com from your mobile browser and it will automatically serve you the optimised website.
Look and feel is very similar to the desktop experience, as you’d hope, and the menu system has been thoughtfully designed to work well with touchscreen. If you’ve got a decent mobile internet service or your gaming over wifi then the games load quickly, and the whole experience is pleasant and trouble free.
We tested with a range of mobile devices running iOS, Android and Windows phone and found absolutely no problems. We also hear that it works fine with latest generation Blackberry devices, but we didn’t have one here to test ourselves.
There are fewer games to play here on mobile than on desktop, and that’s mainly due to technology restrictions and the high quality games that Karamba.com have chosen to go with. There are over 30 games, so I think that the mobile experience here works best as an extension of your desktop play, rather than a standalone mobile casino that most people would be attracted to.
Karamba Bonus & Free Spins
Karamba.com does offer all new players a standard welcome bonus package, but as I mentioned earlier I’ve done some research and managed to find a good bonus that you can take advantage of by signing up to this casino using our link.
Exclusively to anyone who sign up using the GamblingInformation.com link, you will get 25 free spins simply for registering. This is more than double the standard registration offering – which means double your chances of striking it lucky without having to use your own cash. In our testing, after clicking on our link and filling out the required details, we had our free spins within 70 seconds.
When you do decide it’s time to play with your own money the standard welcome bonus is an interesting one, as it mixes matched deposit with further bonus spins as follows:
Day 1 (First Deposit): 100% bonus up to £200 and 20 free spins
Day 2 (Second Deposit): Deposit a minimum of £20, receive an additional 40 free spins
Day 3 (Third Deposit): Deposit a minimum of £20, receive an additional 40 free spins + surprise
Terms are clearly stated and not hidden away, and there’s a 35x wager requirement before bonus winnings can be withdrawn as cash.
This is where Karamba.com really shines. This casino prides itself on putting its customers first, and this is embodies in their CARE philosophy: Customers Are Really Everything.
Karamba.com has a team of dedicated support staff, and there is always someone available to answer your questions between 6am and 11pm GMT 7 days a week.
They offer a range of options to getting help, including a standard UK landline number to call to speak to a member of the team. Because it’s not premium rate it will be included in most people’s call allowance on their landline or mobile contracts, so no additional cost to call up for help.
You can also drop them an email on [email protected], or you can use the online live chat during support opening hours. This is available via a discrete hovering button on every page, or via the on screen menu system.
In my testing I found the Karamba team to be extremely professional, helpful and with a really customer-focused “can do” attitude. The chat system was answered within 90 seconds every time I tried it, and phone support always answered within 10 rings. Email took a little longer than I would have expected, with an average of a 3 hour response time, and sometimes as long as 7 hours. If you’ve got an urgent enquiry I’d use chat or phone.
One innovation I really liked was the availability of a secure document upload system. This made it incredibly easy to send in screenshots or ID verification documents direct to my account without having to attach to an email. A nice touch more casinos should adopt in my opinion.
There’s also a nicely laid out and well-written “Getting Started” FAQ in the main menu that covers all the key areas that a new member would want to know.
In terms of payment methods for deposits and withdrawals, you can usual all the usual methods, including Mastercard/VISA credit and debit cards, direct bank deposit, Paysafe Card, Skrill, and Neteller. Time taken to credit your accounts in either direction is the industry standard instantly for e-wallets, then 1 to 3 business days for other methods depending on the type chosen.
Karamba offers an excellent “history” section to your account, where it shows in extreme detail your entire history with them. Not only in terms of deposits and withdrawals, but also in terms of games played, winnings, bonuses used, etc. This makes it easy to both analyse your play and to see that everything is completely transparent.
There are no fees at Karamba for cashing out your winnings, which is excellent. However there are some limitations placed on you. The first is that the minimum withdrawal is £10 (not too restrictive there!). The second is that you are only able to withdraw a maximum of £7,000 per month unless you have earned VIP status, when you will be given a personalised limit above this. ANy money you request above your limit will be returned to your casino account until the next month.
Everything else about the Karamba experience is incredibly positive, with easy site navigation and unobtrusive notifications and menus. There are no annoying popups and no nag screens, and the whole experience is relaxing and fun.
